School Support Staff -

School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB) to be abolished

On 28 October, the Secretary of State for Education confirmed that the SSSNB would be abolished.  The Department of Education decided that the Body did not fit well with its priority of greater deregulation of pay and conditions arrangements for the school workforce.

Legislation will be introduced to abolish the SSSNB at the earliest opportunity using the first session Education Bill as the legislative vehicle.

All matters referred to the SSSNB for consideration have been withdrawn with immediate effect. These matters included the production of a core contract of employment; national job role profiles for school support staff; a job evaluation scheme for converting the job role profiles into a salary structure and a strategy for implementing the national pay and conditions framework in all maintained schools in England.

School support staff trade unions will submit a joint apply to Michael Gove to retain the SSSNB.  UNISON will campaign to continue to develop its response in the face of the abolition of the body.
